A huge congratulations out to Jerome Flood II for winning his second consecutive Guitar Center Drum-Off Competition here in Rochester. Trust me on this, if you ever get the chance to check him out, don't waste a second more making the move. This twenty year old will make it worth your time. His style is steady, smooth and effortless and loaded with hooks n' slick tricks. His solo was three minutes of sheer entertainment that had you glued to catch sight of where his next visual might be or how he pulls off his rhythmic funk grooves while mixing in subtle nuances in technique or showmanship.
You can catch him at his Church on Adams St. or on occasion with saxophonist Jimmy Highsmith, when he isn't doing his thing in Fredrick, Md. Which ever you prefer....check this one out! And, best of luck to you Jerome in the district competition.
Honorable mention goes out to the four other drummers besides yours truly that put it down for the folks. They all brought the stuff that got them a deserved spot in the store finals. I was honored to be considered among them and was equally entertained with their various styles and abilities. Job well done gentlemen. I'll post their names when i get all of them. jeff h.
