I've been a total slacker for the last few years when it comes to woodshedding. So, as one of my NYRs, I've decided to break out my copy of "Stick Control", and along with my Tama Rhythm Watch, work through it page by page.

My question is; has anybody else here studied with that book (or any technique/stick control books)?
--did you get any improvements in your overall feel, and ease of getting around the kit?

Thanks for any replies...

I needed that last night at Mickey Finns. I almost dropped on the 1st hit.
Still it was great playing again with 3rd degree.
I have been practicing very hard in my basement on the rolands. Working with the japanese womens voice to get faster and faster on double bass teq. I am goin towork with one of the members near me to help him understand the method better. Might as well practice what I preach right.
I cannot twirl to save my life.

I'm sooooo bad!
I never hardly practice anymore.
Oh, I practice with the bands I play in but I never take time out to practice for myself. You know, to be a better drummer.

I ought to just pick a night and spend some time doing rudiments or something. It's been years and years since I did any of that.

Also, I can't twirl worth a shit either.

I need to get a throne with a nice ball-bearing in the seat. Then I'll be able to twirl like a mental patient. Wheeeeeee!

Mickey Finns -- that's in my neck o' the woods. Keep heading south on 444 another 5 miles, and you're at my shop.

... i ran through the Goldberg book for snare drumming awhile back, which helps mostly with timing more than anything. The technique/chops were built in my younger daze in drumcorps. Lately, i'm working now and then through Gary Chesters "The New Breed", Frank Briggs "Complete Modern Drumset", a David Garibaldi "Future Sounds" and Jim Chapins "Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer" as applied to Jazz and Be-Bop (considered the jazz drummers Bible, not to mention he is still highly regarded as one of the best all-time teachers). Most focus on independence but the Chapin book improves the touch. They all come in handy when i get called to do a musical or fill in almost anyplace, so stick to it, its Never time wasted!
